2013 Oklahoma City Thanksgiving
Youth at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County received a surprise appearance by NBA All-Star and Oklahoma City Thunder guard, Russell Westbrook. More than 500 people attended the Club’s 13th annual Thanksgiving Dinner. This is the second year that the Russell Westbrook Why Not? Foundation co-hosted the event along with the United Way of Central Oklahoma’s Emerging Leaders.
“When a celebrity like Russell Westbrook pays takes time to show gratitude to our Club members, it’s really something,” said Jane Sutter, President & CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oklahoma County. “Many of our kids come from low-income homes. When Russell, a former Club member himself, shows them that they can be anyone they want, they truly have something to be thankful for.”
Westbrook attended the Challengers Boys & Girls Club growing up in South Central Los Angeles.
“I know how important Thanksgiving is to the kids and I know how the Boys & Girls Club helped me when I was younger,” said Westbrook. “I am grateful to be in a position to help other kids have a warm Thanksgiving meal.”
