Russell Westbrook hosted his first Houston Thanksgiving dinner event today. The event was held at Jim and Barbara Morefield Boys & Girls Club of Greater Houston where 200 meals were served to members of the local community sponsored by Mikki’s Soul Food Café. Russell and his wife, Nina, served food to the kids and their families and did a raffle giveaway that included signed basketballs and more.
“It’s the first time we’ve done this in Houston which was exciting. It was great to see everyone who came out and I’m looking forward to working with the community and inner-city youth and finding more ways to continue to give back here in Houston.” said, Westbrook.
Russell spent much of his youth at the Challengers Boys & Girls Club in Los Angeles where he was taught to ask, “Why Not?” every time he was told he couldn’t do something. It is because of his time there that he continues to be involved in the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to help further spread their message of encouragement. Last week, Russell hosted the 8th Annual Russell Westbrook Foundation Thanksgiving dinner event at Jesse Owens Park in Los Angeles where he along with his friends and family were able to serve 600 meals to families and members of the local community where he grew up.
