NBA star and Long Beach native Russell Westbrook help celebrate the grand reopening of the newly expanded Westbrook Academy campus with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, Sept. 23.
The event included guest remarks from Westbrook himself, Westbrook Academy Chief of Schools Jason Marin and Los Angeles Promise Fund President Veronica Melvin, followed by a guided tour of the new facility that will soon serve more than 400 middle and high school students across the South Los Angeles area.
Powered by Westbrook’s “Why Not? Foundation” and the LA Promise Fund, the school’s campus expansion symbolizes the dedication the star basketball player and his wife, Nina, have to serving young people achieve educational and career success.
The Westbrook Academy is at 2340 Firestone Blvd., in South Gate.
